Hobbyist drones are being used as ammunition on the war front in Ukraine.
Ukraine is putting rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs) on cheap racing drones and using them to attack Russian front lines. It is an effective method of gathering information, destroying expensive equipment and controlling the battlefield, which represents a fundamental change in the way wars are fought.
През последните няколко седмици снимки на импровизираните боеприпаси се разпространяват в руските и украинските телеграм канали. Кадри, изтеглени от дроновете, които показват атаките, са кацнали в RedditOver the past few weeks, photos of the improvised munitions have been circulating on Russian and Ukrainian Telegram channels. So-called FPV drones are usually used by hobbyists for drone racing. The idea is that the user attaches a pair of goggles to their face, which are connected to a camera on the drone. The controller then has a first-person view (FPV) of the drone.
In pictures of the drones pulled by Telegram, some use parts sold by FlyMod, a Ukrainian racing drone company based in Odessa. Unlike a pre-built DJI or other commercial drone, FPV racing drones are usually assembled by the racers. Hobbyists constantly adjust weight, try different cameras and tinker with helicopters to achieve optimal lift and speed.
