The popular action camera by DJI has just been released with its 4th version - DJI Osmo Action 4. There are 3 major improvements we would like to highlight. We have just compared it to the older version and it looks better, improved image quality - more details and improved dynamic range, something that did remain unchallenged for GoPro cameras until now.
Another improvement is low light performance, when Low-Light Image Enhancement is set to Auto, it supports all stabilization options for 1080p@24/25/30fps, 2.7K (16:9 or 4:3) @24/25/30fps, and RockSteady for 4K (16:9) @24/25/30fps.
Osmo Action 4 has a larger 1/1.3-inch image sensor than its predecessor. With a single pixel equivalent size of 2.4μm, Osmo Action 4 delivers footage with minimal noise in both moving and low-light scenes.
We can see the clear difference in dynamic range and details in this comparison done by David Manning in youtube: The image on Action 3 looks bit brighter but also softer with less details and lower dynamic range. The clouds in the sky from Action 4 is detailed and balanced with the background.
Similarly he also compared low light performance which has been found better with Action 4.
D-Log M is designed for professional videography. It enhances the dynamic range in high-contrast or multi-colored environments (such as blooming gardens). It enables greater flexibility in color grading during post-editing, capturing the scene's essence. 10-bit color depth enables smoother color transition with no discrete step changes.
The 155° ultra wide-angle also captures an expansive view of your surroundings during movement, creating an intense visual impact and immersing you in vast landscapes when recording scenery.
Osmo Action 4 supports the following resolution settings:
Compared to the Standard Combo, the Osmo Action 4 Adventure Combo comes with an additional two Extreme Batteries and a 1.5m Extension Rod, providing you with ample power for long-duration shoots and allowing for multi-angle selfies during skiing or other scenarios.
Osmo Action 4 uses RockSteady 3.0 technology to stabilize footage. This Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) technology is realized by increasing the shutter speed, analyzing the images captured by the CMOS sensor, and compensating by cutting off the edges of these images. In this way, multiple frames are overlaid and finally combined into a single frame that is sharp, clear, and accurately exposed.
Users can use the DJI 30W USB-C Charger* to fast charge Osmo Action 4. The DJI 30W USB-C Charger is sold separately.
